No bail for taxi driver accused of sexual attack on 5-year-old boy

No bail
A magistrate in Couva, in Central Trinidad, on Tuesday denied bail to an accused sex offender and ordered him to remain in custody until he returns to court on April 20.

Taxi driver Abdul Samad, 50, is facing 11 charges of buggery and acts of serious indecency on a five-year-old boy and three teenagers.

On hearing the decision of Magistrate Anna Ryan the man asked the court to guarantee him protection while in custody, stating that he has received death threats.

Ryan noted his concerns and promised to pass the man's concerns to the Commissioner of Prisons.

Samad is accused of committed the acts between January 1 and March 27, 2012, at Springvale Highway, Claxton Bay. The alleged victims are aged 5, 13, and 16.

Samad said he had been charged in the past for drug possession, breaking and entering and, also, for an act of sacrilege.

The oldest of Samad's alleged victims is also accused of buggering and committing serious indecency against the five-year-old boy. Ryan granted bail to the teenager in the sum of $50,000 and released him in the care of his father.
