Panday's Generation Next will undermine PM, lead to fall of government: Moonilal

Roodal Moonilal told members of the United National Congress (UNC) Monday night if members of the Generation Next team take control of the party's executive they will undermine Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the People's Partnership government.

Moonilal, who is one of the UNC's three deputy leaders, was speaking at a meeting of his Nationalists slate for Saturday's internal election.

The Generation Next slate is supported by former UNC leader Basdeo Panday and his daughter, Mickela, who was the MP for Oropouche West in the previous parliament.

Panday has been telling UNC members that the current leadership of the party has lost control of the UNC and that the party is too hevility influenced by people on the outside.

Moonilal has dismissed the Panday team, calling it "Generation Vex" and he is on record as saying that they will be beaten "to a frazzle".

However he warned supporters of the negative influence the team could have if by chance they take charge of the UNC executive.

"Suppose Saturday come and all of us decided we win already and Generation Next comes out to vote and they return to office and they control the UNC. What will happen?

"Crapaud smoke we pipe. That is what will happen. They will undermine the Political Leader, your Prime Minister, and they will undermine the Government and your Government will return to the Opposition," Moonilal said.

He also addressed a complaint from Panday that he is not allowed to see the list of voters for the weekend election.

"They say they want the list, I told my Secretary, I said give them all the lists, let them sit down a table and take pen and paper and write everything in one. Write, write, write. We gave them tea, we gave them coffee. Let them see the list, you know they are complaining that the list is not available. Fair election not fair," he said.
