Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar met on Monday with a delegation of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China headed by Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), Wang Zhaoguo.
The Chinese Delegation paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at the Diplomatic Centre, St. Anns.
Wang was accompanied by a high level delegation that included several ministers, including Lu Hao, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC, and an entourage of other NPC officials.
The Chinese Delegation is in Trinidad and Tobago on the joint invitation of The President of the Senate, Timothy Hamel Smith, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wade Mark.
The purpose of the visit is to promote mutually beneficial exchanges between Trinidad and Tobago and China and to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The Vice Chairman repeated China's invitation to the Prime Minister to visit China at a mutually agreed time in the not too distant future.
Vice Premier Wang Qishan first issued the invitation to Persad-Bissessar when he visited Trinidad for the third China Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.
Persad Bissessar reiterated her Government's commitment to establishing an Embassy in China by the end of this year.
