Kamla warns Rowley that his no confidence motion could backfire on him

United together - UNC chairman Jack Warner and COP Leader Prakash Ramadhar pledge support for Kamla Persad-Bissessar
Kamla Persad-Bissessar told supporters Tuesday night "the raging bull" will meet his matadors on Friday.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a political meeting in Couva to rally support for Friday's showdown in Parliament. That's when MPs will debate an opposition motion calling on the House of Representatives to declare that it has no confidence in the Prime Minister.

Persad-Bissessar warned Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley that Friday that his no-confidence motion could backfire on him.

“Friday in Parliament is a red letter day, not for the Government, because your Government is strong," she said.

She added, "So when the Leader of the Opposition calls for a no-confidence motion in my leadership I ask him, in which mirror is he looking, his party will be better served asking the question as to whether his own MPs and party supporters really have confidence in him as leader of the Opposition.”

She said Rowley’s move reaffirms what the nation already knows, that there is no confidence in him.

“Friday in Parliament, my friends, is the beginning of his political end," she declared. "On Friday the raging bull will meet his matadors!” she said.

“I want to say to Mr Rowley do not be surprised that on Friday, in addition to the 29 votes of the People’s Partnership, that you would get some surprise votes coming in favour and against your motion and in confidence in the Government.

"For those who seek to spread propaganda, that will backfire upon you, there is another way of saying, when you dig hole for somebody else be careful you may fall in that hole!” said Persad-Bissessar.

She warned Rowley that his own MPs may carry out a motion of no confidence against him.

Persad-Bissessar threw picong at Rowley, saying it was because of her success that he was able to get his job.

“He was never elected as leader of the PNM, but guess what, because he brought his leader down, because they lost an election, he became the Leader of the Opposition, so he also has to thank the Partnership for his elevated position,” Persad-Bissessar.

The UNC team will move to the Siparia constituency Wednesday for a meeting at Penal Junction, starting at 6 pm.
