Jack stands with Kamla; "We shall not be defeated".

File: Standing firm and united
Jack Warner stood with his leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in Couva Tuesday night and pledged that she will add another first to her political career when she defeats Keith Rowley's no confidence motion in parliament on Friday.

The chairman of the United National Congress said his leader will create history again when she becomes "the first woman to embarrass the Opposition Leader and Leader of the People’s National Movement for being so rude to file a No-Confidence Motion against you."

The Works and Infrastructure Minister noted her other firsts, and urged the Prime Minister to be proud of her legacy:
"First woman to act as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, first woman to be elected Political Leader of a major political party in Trinidad and Tobago; first woman to be elected Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago; first woman to defeat a former Prime Minister and an incumbent Prime Minister in one year," he said.

He added, "Madam Prime Minister, this evening I stand together with you like every other Member of Parliament of the People’s Partnership Government to remind you from the good book that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper”; that no no-confidence motion against you shall ever succeed and that any word spoken against you shall come to nought."

He reminded his audience in Couva South that he and Persad-Bissessar have fought many battles together.

"Together, we have faced many common foes. In spite of the many adversaries and challenges that crossed our paths, on each occasion we emerged victorious. Today may be a different day but our focus is the same. We shall not be defeated for together we are as ONE.

"We have nothing to fear except if we forget the past from which we have been emancipated: and what was that past?

"Simply put it was the arrogance of a Prime Minister, the disregard shown to our people by his Government Ministers and the wanton wastage of our resources. We have nothing to fear for you Madam Prime Minister have kept an even keel.

"The economy is in good health. Crime is not on the rise. Infrastructure is being upgraded. Buses have gone where under the PNM they could not have gone before. Houses are being distributed to the homeless.

"And the list goes on and on. The only thing we need to fear is if we forget this road less travelled and regress to the period of anarchy under the People’s National Movement.

"Today I stand ready to debate the “No-Confidence Motion” laid in the Parliament and I am ready as I have never been ready before for any debate because this is not a challenge to my Prime Minister; no, it gives the People’s Partnership Government the opportunity to boast of its stewardship and demonstrate to Dr. Rowley that what the PNM could not have done for more than 30 years in power, under the Kamla Persad-Bissessar led People’s Partnership Government we did it in less than two years."

Warner said the motion gives the partnership the opportunity to show to all and sundry that with Kamla Persad Bissessar as leader, the interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago will always be served.

"Her mantra: Serve the People, Serve the People; Serve the People is not just rhetoric but predicated on a value system upon which she has ordered her life; in service to the people," he said.

"We shall not be ashamed Madam Prime Minister neither shall we be embarrassed because a chronicle of your performance demonstrates that for every hurdle you have faced together with this beautiful nation you were able to overcome it.

"History already has a prepared place for you and this no-confidence motion cannot shake the walls or foundation in which your records and good deeds shall be contained.

"Tonight I stand with you, Madam Prime Minister, in one accord, because we are not separated in interest or divided in purpose. Tonight I stand together with you Madam Prime Minister and I shall stand with you till the very end.

"Be proud of your legacy.

"Madam Prime Minister under the severest strain we have stood together without any visible shred of dismantling; tonight this motion that challenges your leadership is insufficient to threaten you.

"Supporters of the People’s Partnership, I want to assure you that we shall all stand together. In our unity, we have the strength to conquer any adversity.

"God bless you Madam Prime Minister, God bless you our loyal supporters," he concluded.
