Jack will say Friday if he will run for post of UNC chairman; won't have a slate if he does

The chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) is not sure if he will run again for the post in the party's internal election on March 24.

However Jack Warner is sure of one thing, if he does run he will do so as an independent, not a part of any slate. That's how he contested the election two years ago and won a landslide against the Panday sponsored candidate, Vasant Bharath.

Warner told local media he will announc his decision on Friday.

He made it clear that in his view people going up for key positions in the party should not be part of any slate. He said he would run if he is convinced that his presence would be a unifying factor.

On the other hand, if he believes he would be a divisive factor he would stand down. 

Warner added that there are people who have tried to demonise him, hoping to get him out of the way. However he said he would not engage in that kind of strategy. And he warned that his silence is deliberate. “Too many people tend to mistake my silence for weakness,” he said.
