The Express newspaper identified the dead men as Nkosi Borde, 28; Nigel Eminess, 21; and Hayden Honore, 31. All of them were from Santa Cruz. Relatives of the injured men identified them as Shane Carmona, Clint Mitchell and Brendon Benjamin, the Express reported.
Relatives of the six victims claim the men had gone out to lime at a bar in Chase Village to celebrate the lifting of curfew restrictions, when they got into an altercation with a group of men who attempted to rob one of them. Another altercation took place outside the club involving gunfire.
The Express said the police response included a high speed chase involving two vehicles. There was a shootout on the Uriah Butler Highway, which led to a crash and the fatalities.
One media report said police officers recovered two firearms — a 9 mm pistol and a 357 magnum — a quantity of cash, jewelry and cellular phones from the vehicles. However relatives of the victims said the men were not armed.
The incident has thrown the Santa Cruz community into mourning. People there told the media the three persons killed had just gone out to lime and insisted that they did not rob anyone.
