Fire Services officers on Monday rescued 12 children and two teachers from a Pre School that was affected by fresh flooding in north Trinidad. Parents later picked up their kids at the St Clair Police Station.
Emergency personnel were kept busy since the weekend trying to clear debris from roadways and to open roads so people could get home.
The flooding problems started over the weekend following heavy floods but got worse on monday when the Maraval river overflowed its banks, causing people to be trapped in their vehicles as they tried to get home after work.
A sudden rush of water across the roadway almost swept away cars, with drivers and passengers inside. One newspaper quoted an unnamed contractor as saying "it was as if a mini tsunami passed."
