Evidently hoping for early elections in mimicry of his own party’s senseless harakiri, the PNM has launched a three car raffle to raise funds for such an event.
But more significantly, the incumbent political leader has decided to ensure his party’s base support by opposing the SoE and calling for the resignation of the Minister of National Security, our preeminent bulwark against the criminal element of the country which is the main beneficiary of such a call.
The gang legislation has proven a failure despite Dr. Rowley’s insistence on its sufficiency, and the drop in crime appears to have convinced him that the SoE has effectively served its purpose – a remarkable achievement which his call is intended to reverse.
The PNM is making no semblance of pretence to be against crime, our major aberration. Their clarion calls against the SoE and its every aspect of application and discharge continue unabated despite the challenges the nation faces on a daily basis.
