Jack congratulates schol winner, offers him a job on Point Fortin highway

Jack Warner congratulates Shastri Ram
Jack Warner visited his alma mater - Presentation College, Chaguanas - on Friday to congratulate students for their academic excellence.

The Works and Infrastructure minister who is also the MP for Chaguanas West, met with Presidents Medal winner Shastri Ram and offered him a high paying job at his ministry to work on the Golconda to Point Fortin Highway.

Ram and another student from Presentation College San Fernando are joint winners of the prestigious President's Medal. Presentation college Chaguanas has won the medal 13 times.

Warner also gave the young man a gift of $4,000 in units from the Unite Trust Corporation. He also gave the 18 other scholarship winners gifts of $2,000 each in Unit Trust units.

Addressing students at the college, Warner said Ram told him that he plans to study Robotics at the Carnegie University, Pennsylvania in the United States, but would be looking for a job next year.

Warner said he offered Ram a job with the National Infrastructure Development Company (NIDCO).

The Presentation college alumni said he was pleased with the school's academic performance but noted that it's been lagging behind in sports.

To deal with that problem he offered to send a paid football coach for one year to teach students the art of football.

He said students should strive towards achieving recognition through academic performance and other forms of hard work.

The minister noted that the performance of the youths in Chaguanas was on the rise as he recalled the achievements of the top three 2011 SEA students of the Chaguanas Government School.

Ram urged fellow students to remain focused. He said people should rise above whatever negative situations they might encounter and strive for excellence.
