2 more boats impounded, four arrested in illegal diesel fuel scam

One of the seized vessels
The Trinidad & Tobago Coast Guard has impounded two more vessels and have detained four men for questioning in connection with the illegal sale of diesel fuel.

On Tuesday Coast Guard officials disclosed that they had seized two vessels loaded with about 100,000 gallons on diesel fuel.

The latest bust was made Wednesday afternoon as the men were allegedly attempting to bunker the fuel.

The Coast Guard and Couva police had been monitoring a fuel tanker suspected of transporting diesel to a vessel alongside a small jetty in Brickfield, Waterloo.

One of the vessels had a black hull and white super structure; two foreigners were on board. Officials believe they are Indonesians. The other vessel, a 38-foot black pirogue with compartments for transporting fuel, had two nationals on board.
