Ex-PNM minister Dumas quits job at THA

Rennie Dumas has quit his job as coordinator of the Strategic Oversight Unit in the Office of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary.

THA Chief Secretary, Orville London, confirmed Friday that he has accepted the resignation of the former cabinet minister in the Manning administration.

Dumas resigned a day after he was charged with common assault.

"I take this opportunity to assure, express and pledge my full support and appreciation for all that you are doing towards the sustainable development of the people, families, communities and society of Tobago, especially in this time of challenge," Dumas wrote in his letter to London.
He said the media and the state have tried to drag his name in the mud and didn't wish to burden London further on the matter of his pending court date.

Dumas is scheduled to appear in court on June 22 to answer a charge of common assault and occasioning actual bodily harm on Roger Simon on June 1.

The former minister is alleged to have hit Simon on the face with a gun, breaking several of his front teeth.
