This is Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's universal prayer for Trinidad and Tobago delivered on Sunday at an interfaith service hosted by the United National Congress (UNC):
We know it is you who turn our minds to thoughts of peace, solutions for problems and goodness towards all.
Hear our collective prayer in this time of change and inspire and bless us with your ultimate power to change hate into love, poverty into prosperity, violence into peace and discord into harmony.
We thank you for inspiring us with your infinite wisdom to recognize that Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Spiritual Baptists, Orishas— whatever is our religion, we proudly and profoundly affirm that we are all followers of one God, you our Almighty Father.
Let us all in your name therefore join hands together in eternal friendship and always walk towards the paths of righteousness and love. Your power changes hearts.
Strengthen our resolve to do good deeds and engender positivity and prosperity for all in Your name, give to us understanding that puts an end to strife; mercy that quenches hatred, and forgiveness that overcomes vengeance.
Empower all people to live in your law of love and bless and keep us always.
