Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner will on Wednesday inaugurate a new luxury bus service from Piarco International Airport to Port of Spain.
It's part of the "bold and innovative" agenda of the Public Transit Service Corporation (PTSC) under the chairmanship of Devant Maharaj. The PTSC's vision is to expand the transit authority's service throughout the country. It has already introduced regular bus services in several rural routes.
The airport bus service is a project that involves the Airports Authority, the PTSC and Caribbean Arilines. The directors of all three state boards in the Works and Transport ministry will be present Wednesday for the launch, which is scheduled for nine in the morning.
The introduction of the luxury service from the airport to the capital city brings Piarco in line with most international airports that offer affordable mass transit to visitors.
PTSC sources have told JYOTI that the one-way fare on the bus will be $4.00. That's an almost free service when compared with the private Airport Express in Toronto, which operates with a bus similar to the luxury PTSC vehicle.
It costs Cdn$20 (TT$125.00) for a one way fare from Pearson International Airport to downtown Toronto, the same distance as Piarco to Port of Spain.
