Photo story: Two fires in as many days destroy homes, leave families homeless

A firefighter interviews the family members who lost their home in a fire Monday in Golconda, South Trinidad
A fire Monday in the southern Trinidad community of Golconda left nine people homeless, including six children. By the time firefighters reached the scene the fire had destroyed the two-bedroom home.

Sankar Seebaran and his wife Salisha lived in the house with their children and grandchildren. Seebaran, who is a CEPEP worker, is asking for whatever help he can get for his family. "All we have is the clothes on our backs," he told the Trinidad Express.

It was the second devastating blaze within two days.

On Sunday another fire in an impoverished squatting community of Marabella destroyed four houses and left a dozen people with nowhere to live. The homes were in close proximity at Union Road Trainline. Police suspect arson. They are looking for a man who was spotted fleeing the scene.
