CAL board says it communicates with line minister, sent minutes of meeting to Warner

The Board of Caribbean Airlines (CAL) issued a media release Thursday refuting claims made by its line minister that the board doesn't communicate with him.

On Tuesday Jack Warner told reporters "they don't answer to me." He added, "As far as I am concerned they have no obligation to talk me. I read their affairs in the papers. I don't get any phone calls, I don't any e-mails, I don't even get minutes from board meetings. I don't know anything."

In denying this, the board said it held a meeting with the minister on November 24."Contrary to reports there was in fact communication between the Minister and the board since its appointment on 3 November, 2010," the release stated.

"The board has been in communication with the Minister of Works and Transport. The most recent being a letter dated November 26, 2010 advising of the management changes at CAL," the release stated.

"Minutes of the meeting of the board of directors were delivered to both the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Finance on November 30, 2010. The board has complied with its obligations to the Ministry and it is noteworthy that this is the first time in the history of CAL that minutes of its board meeting were ever supplied to the line Minister."

The board also defended the dismissal of Captain Ian Brunton as the airline's Chief Executive Officer, stating that the decision was not based on any disagreement with the Cabinet decision.

"The board of Caribbean Airlines is not seeking to undo a Cabinet decision. The board thought it prudent to obtain advice from an aviation expert before it selects a new fleet of short haul aircraft and is in the process of doing so," the release stated.
