33 arrested in police raid in Lavenetille

Scores of police descended on a Laventille community Wednesday and arrested 33 persons in connection with several offences, including murder. The potential charges against the suspects include:
  • murder of Anthony Felix, who was shot dead in the area
  • possession of a gun and ammunition
  • marijuana possession
  • outstanding warrants
  • shootings and robberies
Assistant Commissioner of Police Raymond Craig said it was part of the the continuing anti-crime initiatives, which involved all nine divisions.

Craig told reporters the aim is to reassure the community that the police are in charge and "we will win back the communities."

He added, "We want to reassure the communities that we are dealing with all the criminal elements in society. We also see this exercise as a preventative approach in that we are preventing homicides from taking place within various areas within our community."

He explained that the raid was part of the initiative of the Commissioner of Police to make sure that communities are safe so that citizens can go about their legitimate and lawful business.
