Patrick Manning accepted his defeat gracefully in Monday's general election in Trinidad and Tobago and hinted that after 40 years in politics it is time to quit.
In a brief address to disappointed supporters at the headquarters of the People's National Movement (PNM) in Port of Spain, the Prime Minister accepted full responsibility for the result.
He said he will meet with his party to discuss what needs to be done. He dropped a strong hint that he might retire, saying that whatever he does will be in the best interest of the party.
He thanked supporters for their support, especially young people. And he said he hopes that the incoming government would keep its promises.
