So far only Tabaquite MP Ramesh L. Maharaj has said he would run against Panday, but many UNC supporters are uncomfortable with that and have been lobbying Persad-Bissessar to join the contest.
She acknowledges that the support for her to get into the race is growing by the minute with friends, supporters and advisers all telling her this is the right moment in her political career.
The message, she says, is the same from everywhere. People are telling her the country needs leadership and a change in government and that she is the one who can deliver both.
But she is still cautious, partly because of her relationship with current UNC leader Basdeo Panday and her deep respect for the former prime minister.
That is why she says she has to wait and have more consultations before making a decision one way or the other.
Panday has said she is welcome to run if that is what she believes she has to do. He says the deep interest in the leadership is a clear indication that demeocracy is alive in the party.
The former attorney general is listed to speak at the UNC's Monday Night Forum on Monday in Panday's Couva North constituency.
