PM Kamla Pesad-Bissessar and officials tour the hospital |
The South West Regional Health Authority said on Monday the clinics are ready to begin operations on that day and is advising patients to report to the new Facility for their appointments. It will be providing a shuttle service from the San Fernando General Hospital to the teaching hospital, beginning at 8 am on Thursday morning.
Officials disclosed these details to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday when she paid a surprise visit to the recently-opened San Fernando Teaching Hospital. She toured several floors and stated that she was impressed to learn that the facility is now ready to accept patients.
"I am pleased that some relief will come the way of the patients," she said. "We have been hearing that patients have been in distress at the San Fernando General Hospital when they go there.
"This hospital could not have come at a better time and the people of San Fernando and other areas can feel assured that they will get their treatment in a timely manner," she added.
Dr Lackram Bodoe, Chairman of the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA), and CEO Anil Gosine accompanied the Prime Minister on the tour.
