Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is going to Cuba Monday to attend the
third conference of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Havana, which is being held from Saturday to January 29.
The PM's Press Secretary, Francis Joseph, made the announcement at Thursday's post cabinet media briefing.
CELAC comprises 33 sovereign countries in the Americas representing about 600 million people. Canada and the United States are not members. Other non-members in the region are the territories of France, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
Joseph said two ministers will accompany Persad-Bissessar but did not name them. He also said the PM has not yet decided on an acting prime minister during her absence. He said that would be announced on Monday.
