Fire at power sub-station knocks out power in parts of Western Trinidad

An explosion wrecked the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission’s (T&TEC) Westmoorings sub-station Wednesday evening, causing large sections of west Trinidad, from Diego Martin to Chaguaramas, to be without power.

The explosion caused a fire, which firefigjhters brought under control within two hours. It took T&TEC several hours more to restore electricity to the affected communities.

The utility told local media it doesn't know what caused the problem.
