The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, has extended condolences to the family of Trinidadian scholar, Ravindra Ramrattan, who was killed in a terrorist attack on a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, on Sunday.

The Prime Minister stated, "it is with deep sadness that I offer condolences to the family of this bright son from Trinidad and Tobago. Having achieved the President's Medal, Ravindra went abroad and completed his studies, and took up a major assignment in Africa."

She continued, "As you know there are many nationals of Trinidad and Tobago living and working around the world. Look at what happened on September 11, 2001, when the Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York were attacked. Fourteen Trinidad and Tobago nationals died in that attack, and each year the United States Embassy here holds a memorial for them."

"Over the years, we have heard where our nationals, serving in various capacities, were violently killed. Here was a young man,
approaching 30 years old, with a bright future, cut down by terrorism. May he rest in peace."

Mr.
Ramrattan lived at Munroe Road, Cunupia, and attended Presentation College, Chaguanas, where he won the President's Medal in 2002, having gotten distinctions in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and General Paper.

Mr.
Ramrattan had been working as a research anyalyst with the World Bank in Nairobi since September 2011.
