Kublalsingh arrested; will be in court Thursday

Police arrested and charged Dr Wayne Kublalsingh on Wednesday morning as the head of the Highway Re-Route Movement led a protest aimed at stopping construction of the Debe to Mon Desir segment of the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin.

Police charged Kublalsingh with assault, resisting arrest and obstructing police in the course of their duties. He was later granted bail in the sum of $10,000 by a Justice of the Peace and ordered to appear in court in Siparia on Thursday. 

Media reports said Kublalsingh and his followers gathered at the proposed construction site of the Mon Desir interchange and prevented workers from operating a backhoe by forming a human barricade around the vehicle.

Police moved in to clear the path for the backhoe and arrested Kublalsingh.
