UNC has "beatuitiful way ahead": Rambachan

United National Congress (UNC) deputy political leader Dr Suruj Rambachan told reporters Wednesday the party had a "successful" two-hour meeting at which "all the issues relevant to the party were addressed". He added, "I think we have a beautiful way ahead.”

The national executive of the party met Wednesday at the Rienzi Complex to discuss several important matters including the resignation of Senate vice-president Lyndira Oudit, the party's defeat in the Chaguanas West by-election and strategies for the Local Government election.

He said the executive also endorsed the leadership of Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The PM did not speak with the media. She explained that she had to get to a meeting of the PP caucus. The Guardian newspaper described the mood as "upbeat" before executive members went to their meeting.

Rambachan said the meeting was about charting the way forward for the party. “I think one of the best ways to do that is what we are doing this evening, bringing together the players, the parliamentary arm and the councillors who have just returned from office temporarily for discussions so we can listen to their views," he told reporters.
