Kamla calls on Rowley to "hand over the criminal"

Kamla Persad-Bissessar: "Dr Rowley hand over the criminal."

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday night called on Opposition Leader Keith Rowley to name the person who sent his the fake emails that he took to Parliament on May 20 during the no confidence motion against the government.

Holding up a copy of the Trinidad Express with the front page headline E-MAILS FAKES, she demanded that Rowley reveal the name of the person who provided him with the information. "Dr Rowley hand over the criminal!" she demanded. "Who was the criminal?"

She was speaking at a political meeting in Warren Road in the Chaguanas West Constituency and responding to comments made by acting police commissioner Stephen Williams who told the Express newspaper that the e-mails were fakes.

"Those documents are purporting to be e-mails but they are not. They are fake,” the Express quoted the acting commissioner as saying.

Keith Rowley read the 31 emails in Parliament in which he alleged that there was a conspiracy involving Persad-Bissessar, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, Senior cabinet minister Dr Surujrattan Rambachan and National Security Adviser Gary Griffith.

She said when Rowley went to Parliament with the bogus emails he stated that he would accept responsibility for them. She said that responsibility means delivering the person who must now be investigated by police.

Rowley stated Monday that Williams' statement was premature and insisted that the Integrity Commission is a proper body to investigate e-mails. However Williams disagrees with that.

Rowley told reporters he wants to know how Williams arrived at his conclusion.
