Opposition leader Dr Keith Rowley has paid a $12,000 debt to Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, the Sunday Guardian reported on June 16, 2013.
The paper said Rowley’s attorney and PRO of the People’s National Movement Faris Al-Rawi sent a cheque as the final settlement of cost ordered by Justice Andre des Vignes arising out of a defamation claim against Rowley for statements that he made on November 1, 2011.
Rowley had alleged Ramlogan awarded half of State briefs to his former law firm Freedom House Law Chambers. Three weeks ago Rowley claimed that he did not owe anything.
Following that, Ramlogan sought to take legal steps to declare Rowley bankrupt. If that had happened Rowley would have been disqualified from being an MP.
The Guardian said Rowley also owes Ramlogan sums arising from a claim made by Rowley about the judgment of Justice Boodoosingh in the judicial review proceedings against Steve Ferguson and Ish Galbaransingh.
