PNM says it's ready for Chaguanas West election

The People’s National Movement (PNM) says it's ready to fight the Chaguanas West seat in the by election on July 29.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the date Thursday morning in Parliament.  

No party has announced a candidate yet for the election. The former MP, Jack Warner, who is the seeking the nomination from his party is the only person who has been carrying on an aggressive and very public campaign.

PNM general secretary Ashton Forde told locval media his partty has been holding quiety cottage meetings since Warner vacated the seat in April. “We had already started our campaign for the local government elections and just ramped that up for the by-elections,” Forde told the Express newspaper.

Forde told the paper the PNM expects to wrap up the screening of candidates by the weekend.
