Letter: Looking at the big picture

Any citizen that has been following the diplomatic developments taking place in Trinidad and Tobago would realize that much is being done to the benefit of our country. However, there are those who believe that negative criticism is the way forward.

In the Trinidad Express on June 3rd former diplomat and head of the Public Service Reginald Dumas described the three-day visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan as “particularly glaring protocol lapses”.

Mr. Dumas added that he was embarrassed as a citizen and as someone who has served Trinidad and Tobago at home and abroad for decades.

Within the last few weeks we as a nation have had visits by leaders in the global community, USA and China. These visits hold a promise of stronger international cooperation and economic development for our country, and the region at large.

Rather than point fingers, we should applaud the foreign relations being explored and developed by our government. We should be proud as citizens of Trinidad and Tobago that the leaders of the world's largest economies have placed a vested interest in our nation.
