Former Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner is launching his re-election campaign Sunday with a motorcade and political meeting.
The motorcade will leave the Caroni Bird Sanctuary at 11 in the morning and criss-cross the entire Chaguanas West Constituency, ending with a political meeting at the Jubilee Recreation ground at Cacandee Road, Felcity that is scheduled to begin at 5:00 P.M.
The former UNC chairman announced the launch in a media release Wednesday. However the release did not have the UNC logo. He has said he wants to contest the seat for the party.
The UNC's national executive met last week but did not take a decision on the bye-election.
Although Warner resigned with effect from midnight Friday April 26, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has not yet declared the seat vacant.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissesser, who is also the leader of the UNC, has said the party will follow its normal process in deciding who gets the nomination for the seat.
According to party rules any member can seek the nomination for an election. So far no one but Warner has indicated an interest in running for the party although several names have been mentioned on online blogs and some media reports.
JYOTI's sources say the party has not made any decision about the election.
