Letter: Kindly Give way to precedent

I had a great hunch that this election was going to down some hefty embroilment because it is unnatural of the Leader of the Opposition (actually the entire PNM) to be so cooperative with the Government when it comes to national issues.

An event as historical as they can get for any country was a delicate, triple layered, chocolate butter cream stuffed cake with Dr Rowley’s name on it. A dessert elegantly laid out was hard to pass up by this Opposition Leader to create mass turpitude with on a national and historical occasion such as the election of our fifth President.

I was utterly disgusted by Dr. Rowley’s statements and reasoning behind his actions of refusing to submit his contributions for the election to the Chairman. It unveiled his and the PNM’s brazen disregard for the Office of the Speaker and the Electoral College. This was sadly unpatriotic and uncouth of the Opposition and a party filled with hope to represent a nation.

There a certain rules and protocol that are supposed to be abided by laid down in our Constitution to guide the process of the elections and these rules were merely being adhered to by the Chairman, Mr. Mark.

Hence, I failed to even acknowledge any of Dr Rowley’s comments on the College and the process. All I can see is the ignorance and egotism emanating from the Leader and quite frankly I am disgusted by their behavior and tradition of opposing for the sake of it.

I would like to advise the Honourable Leader to stand back and allow some decorum, protocol and precedent to take place and maybe look on and learn so we can be those strong pillars of society that our future can comfortably rest on.

Don’t you think so?
