OBIT: Sedley "Penguin" Joseph dies at age 70

Calypsonian Sedley Joseph died Sunday. He was 70.

Joseph was known in the Calypso world as Penguin. He was a former national calypso monarch and Road March champion.

In 1982 he took the Road March title with "A Deputy Essential". 


Two years later he became Calypso Monarch with "We Living In Jail" and "Sorf Man." 
Some of his better known calypson hits include What Sweet In Goat Mouth, Look De Devil Dey and Taxi Woman. (click on the images to hear Penguin's big hits)


Sedley was a schoolteacher by profession and also served as president of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) for several years.

He was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Gold) in 2005 for his contribution to the development of the calypso art form.
