Jack wants to know how top THA man repaid $M loan in less than 2 years

Jack Warner: "How could a man in two years pay back $2 million and only owe the bank $94,000 as of last week?"
Jack Warner on Thursday questioned how the Finance and Enterprise Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Anselm London, paid of most of a $2 million loan London took from ScotiaBank to build a luxury home in Signal Hill.

The chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) made the point at a meeting of the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) in Roxborough. There has been a lot of talk about a house that TOP leader Ashworth Jack built with his own funds.

Warner took issue not with London's house, but the financing of it.

"The nonsense you hearing about the house that Jack built, don't let that worry you. You should be more concerned about the house a fella built in Signal Hill," Warner told TOP supporters.

"I am advised that your Finance Secretary borrowed...$2 million from Scotia Bank, to build a house in Signal Hill and in two years he paid off everything, except $94,000.

"How could a man in two years pay back $2 million and only owe the bank $94,000 as of last week? But I will say more at another time," he promised.

Warner compared THA Chief Secretary Orville London to former UDeCOTT executive chairman Calder Hart and urged people to make the right choice and stop "secret PNM deals" to allow Tobago to prosper.

"You have to defend Tobago against cousin Orville, against cousin Anselm, and against the PNM. In other words I am saying to you defend Tobago against corruption," he said.

TOP Leader Ashworth Jack said the PNM-led THA spent $22 billion in the past 12 years and does not have much to show for it. He cited emergency medical service as an example, noting that there is only one ambulance operating in the whole island.

"Tobago, are you aware that in Tobago today there is one working ambulance in the whole of Tobago? So you better get sick in turns," he said.
