From our archives: Kublalsingh is engaged in a political fight

File: Wayne Kublalsingh joins hands with OWTU boss Ancel Roget
Some of the visitors who have been dropping in visit with Wayne Kublalsingh include labour leaders and members of the Opposition People's National Movement (PNM).

While Kublalsingh might have started his movement meaning well and trying to deal with genuine issues connected to the highway extension, this has now become an anti-government political protest, fully supported by some labour groups and the PNM.

Earlier in the year the Oilfield Workers' Trade Union (OWTU), which has stated publicly that its intention is to cause the fall of the People's Partnership government, joined the re-reoute group protest.

OWTU President General Ancel Roget called it an "epic battle". In welcoming the OWTU and other activist labour groups, Kublalsingh said, "...this new political formation will defeat the political elite."

It was Kublalsingh himself who tainted the group with that statement. And now the ones clustering around him like vultures are the same people who never wanted anything to do with him during the anti-smelter project.

And it appears that no one is really interested in talking about the people in that stretch of highway in south Trinidad, many of whom are interested in moving on with their lives instead of standing in the way of development.
