UNC congratulates Windies on T20 win

The West Indies team celebrates victory Sunday in the T20 tournament
The chairman of the United National Congress (UNC), Jack Warner, on Sunday congratulated the the West Indies Cricket Team on their victory in the World T20 finals in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

He extended congratulation on behalf of the Political Leader, Executive and membership of the United National Congress.

In a media release, Warner said the team defied the odds against the unbeaten home-side favorites.

"They promised to rain on the Sri Lankans’ party plans, and kept their word. The 36-run today (Sunday) win crowns an exciting campaign that included last Friday’s 74-run semi-final trouncing of Australia, a match that truly lifted the hopes and expectations of the people of the region.

"Special commendations are due to 24-year-old Trinidadian Sunil Narine who bowled 3-9 and to St Lucian Captain Darren Sammy who bowled 2-6, making a major contribution to limiting the Sri Lankans. Jamaican batsman Marlon Samuels also deserves kudos his mesmerizing batting spell of 78 runs which included six sixes," he said.

Warner added, "This performance proves that the West Indies team has found a formula for success and that the team has the assets and talent to deliver – something that their fans throughout the region and the world never doubted.

"The victory marks a step in the restoration of the reputation of the West Indies as a major force in world cricket. We therefore look forward to the Windies keeping up the pace in their future campaigns."
