Penny beats Donna in PNM election; Carolyn wins as COP chair

Pennelope Beckles beat Laventille East/Morvant MP, Donna Cox Sunday for the post of Lady Vice-Chairman of the People's National Movement (PNM) at the party's convention in Port of Spain. 

Former government minister Conrad Enill, who ran for the post of Education Officer, lost to Anthony Garcia. 


Former Public Services Association president Jennifer Baptiste-Primus was elected Labour Relations Officer and Laventille West MP Nileung Hypolite beat three challengers for the post of Youth Officer Male. The Youth Officer Female is Tobagonian Yolanda George-Reid.

In the Congress of the People (COP) election Public Administration Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan defeated incumbent Joseph Toney for the post of chairman, becoming the first female chair of the party.

The election was by a one-member, one-vote system. 

Nicole Dyer-Griffith won the deputy chair position, a portfolio formerly held by Vernon de Lima who resigned in September.
