Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Thursday presented a cheque for
$1million to Olympic gold medalist, Keshorn Walcott, 19.

The money is one of several gifts that the Government has given Walcott to show appreciation for his gold medal performance at the London Olympics.

Persad-Bissessar again congratulated Walcott for making T&T proud for his achievement in bringing home gold for his winning Javelin throw. She encouraged the young man to invest his money wisely and urged him to continue striving for excellence both on and off the sporting field.

Walcott threw a national record of 84.58metres to claim an Olympic gold medal in the men’s Javelin. He led after the first round with 83.51m and improved on that with his second throw to win the event. His win was Trinidad and Tobago’s first Olympic title in the Javelin field event.

The only other gold medal olympian for T&T is Hasely Crawford, who won the medal for the 100m event at the Montreal Olympics in 1976.
