$5,000 for each temple; mosques, churches to get similar grants

Each temple in Trinidad & Tobago will get $5,000 for this year's Divali celebration, which is on November 13. They will come from the Office of the Prime Minister Sports and Cultural Fund.

Couva North MP Ramona Raamdial made the announcement Tuesday.

She said last year, the government gave the money to the governing bodies of churches, temples and mosques for the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr, Divali and Christmas.

However this year MPs would get a list of all the churches, temples and mosques in their respective constituencies in order to distribute the grants directly, ensuring that "no one would be left out."

Earlier this year mosques received $5,000 each for Eid-ul-Fitr. Churches would get a similar grant later in the year for Christmas.
