Sinkhole near lighthouse causes traffic chaos; hole repaired

A portion of the west-bound lane of the Beetham Highway near Sea Lots suddenly collapsed Wednesday, just before noon. It caused officials to close off the highway, which caused major traffic chaos.

The Ministry of Works issued several bulletins advising motorists to use alternative routes. It also opened a section of the Priority Bus Route to general traffic. The minister of works, Emmanuel George, asked for an investigation to determine the cause of the road to collapse.

Engineers were scheduled to work overnight to repair the road in time for Thursday's morning rush hour.

Media reports Thursday say the hole has been repaired and traffic flow restored.
