Former Prime Minister Patrick Manning has told representatives of his San Fernando East MP constituency he is returning home from the United States to continue representing them.

Manning is in Washington DC recovering from a stroke. He communicated via Skype with staff at his Coffee Street, San Fernando, constituency office, on Thursday.

Communications Officer Anthony Clarke told the Express newspaper Manning was able to recognise everyone who spoke with him and he told his staff that he would return soon to represent them.

Clark told the paper Manning sounded very wel. "He laughed like the old Mr Manning did...He spoke to everybody who was at the constituency office at the time"

Several of Manning's supporters had gathered at the office to celebrate Manning's 41st year as the parliamentary representative for San Fernando East. They also prayed for his speedy recovery.

Opposition leader Keith Rowley did not attend. Officials said Roweley was out of the country.

Manning suffered a stoke at his Sumadh Gardens, Vistabella, San Fernando, home on January 27. An air ambulance flew him to the United States two weeks later. The government is looking after Manning's medical expenses.
