Cadiz elected VP of UNCTAD XIII

Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Trade and Industry has been elected as one of the Vice Presidents of The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) XIII at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).

Stephen Cadiz's role includes guiding the event's deliberations, which will prepare an action plan for the global community.

The theme of the conference is "Development-Centred Globalization-Towards Inclusive and Sustainable Development." UNCTAD XIII will consider policy options for developing countries in the context of the global economic reality.

It's the second time within six months that the profile of Trinidad and Tobago has been raised with the election of Cadiz to an important international position. In December 2011 Minister Cadiz was also elected as Vice-Chair of the 8th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference.

These appointments translate directly into an increased relevance for Trinidad & Tobago in the global marketplace thereby creating opportunities for growth and foreign investment. At the same time it ensures that Trinidad and Tobago’s trade and development agenda is brought to the forefront of international policy.
