Multicultural Ministry partners with Music Associaiton

The Ministry of the Arts and Multiculturalism has partnered with the Trinidad and Tobago Music Association (TTMA) to create a new category for this year’s 30th Biennial Music Festival entitled ‘national songs’ .

In a media release the ministry said the initiative is part of a series of activities commemorating Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th anniversary of Independence.

"It is intended to instill a sense of national pride in competitors and audience members alike who participate in this year’s 30th Biennial Music Festival, already underway at venues throughout the country," the ministry said.

Competitors in the national song category will vie for 19 trophies in the Junior and Open classes of the music festival.

The designer of the trophies is local artist Gabriella D’Abreau.

"Since the inaugural festival, the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival hosted by the TTMA, has enjoyed widespread popularity, claiming its space as a tradition among participants particularly in the genre of classical music," the release said.

It added, "It has endured as a platform for young and aspiring musicians and vocalists, many of whom later credit the festival for the launch of their successful music careers."

This year marks 65 years of the TTMA’s music advocacy and persistent efforts to foster an appreciation for the music of composers the world over.
