PSC gives Giibs 7 days to report on fiscal management systems

The Police Service Commission (PSC) met on Thursday and asked Commissioner of Police Dwayne Gibbs to provide a full report on issues related to the "procurement, fiscal management and tendering systems" within the Police Service.

The PSC said it considered recent media reports, the public interest, letters from citizens, including the Leader of the Opposition Dr. Keith Rowley, and comments from the Minister of National Security regarding the light aircraft leased by the Police Service.

In an official statement the PSC said:

"In light of these circumstances and in keeping with its Constitutional mandate of monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the discharge of the functions of the Commissioner of Police (CoP) and Deputy Commissioners, the Commission wishes to state that it has decided to request a report within seven (7) days from the CoP in relation to the procurement, fiscal management and tendering systems within the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) generally and specifically in relation to the procurement process employed in relation to this particular light aircraft service acquisition process."
