UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar with the party's Chairman, Jack Warner in 2010 |
The meeting at the Couva South constituency complex is one of three major meetings ahead of Friday's vote to reinforce the point that the PM and leader of the UNC has the full confidence of the people.
On Wednesday a similar meeting will be held in Persad-Bissessar's constituency at Penal Junction and the next day the UNC takes its campaign to Rowley's doorstep with a meeting in Diamond Vale.
Warner told the Express newspaper the no confidence motion against the Prime Minister is a serious matter and that is why he will stand with her and defend her. He knocked down speculation that he was left out of a planning meeting Sunday, explaining that he had an urgent family matter that needed his attention.
Some media and online bloggers have been trying to create the impression of a fall out between Warner and the PM. However Warner made it clear that the only thing that matters is what is real.
Warner was one of the first UNC MPs to endorse Persad-Bissessar when she announced that she would run for the leadership of the UNC in December 2009. And he still supports Persad-Bissessar.
"The fact is I don’t know of anybody real or imaginary who believes there is hostility between me and the Prime Minister,” he told the paper, adding that she has nothing to fear.
"I believe that her achievements can stand up to scrutiny. I believe when you consider what has been achieved in 22 months, the facts speak for themselves," he said.
Warner acknowledged that a confidence motion is a legitimate parliamentary tool that an opposition party can use, noting that the UNC used it against the Manning administration. It was an opposition motion that led to the downfall of the Manning administration.

The opposition led by Persad-Bissessar had filed a motion of no confidence in Manning. However it was never debated. Manning dissolved Parliament on the eve of the debate in April 2010 and called an election, which he lost.
