AG will complete study of report on surveillance plane in 2 weeks

Attorney General Anand Ramlogan confirmed to reporters on tuesday that he is studying a report on the controversial deal by the police service to lease a light aircraft for 12 weeks at a cost of just under $1 million.

Speaking during a break from the Senate he said it would take about two weeks to complete his review after which he will share his findings with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

He added that if there are any breaches of the law, he would then turn the matter over to the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs and one of his deputies, Jack Ewatski are under fire from the opposition for concluding the deal. However, both of them have stated publicly everything was done above board.

National Security Minister John Sandy has stated that the commissioner has the authority to spend up tio a million dollars without seeking clearance from the minister. However he said he felt it would have been a good idea for Gibbs to discuss it with him and provided details to the National Security Council.

Ramlogan told the media he has asked for additional information to the report that he is currently studying. “That information should be forthcoming this week and when I get that I will complete my review to see if there were any breaches in the matter," he stated.
