Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar handed out hundreds of leases Friday to former employees of Caroni (1975) Limited. Her predecessor, Patrick Manning, closed the state-owned sugar company in 2003 putting thousands of people out of work. The lots were part of the severance agreement but Manning refused to deliver the lots.
The people who got their leases were grateful to the PM. One kissed her hand and another bowed respectfully to her.
