Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said Friday there is no need for her to apologise for bowing before Indian President Pratibha Patil during a state visit earlier this month.
She made the gesture of respect to the Indian Head of State at an event in Jaipur, India when she was presented with the Chief Guest honour at the annual Pravasi event.
Opposition Leader Keith Rowley has said persad-Bissessar should not have bowed before a foreign leader. He said the act was "indicative of subservience".
Persad-Bissessar told reporters: “I make no excuses or apologies for showing respect to my elders."
