Manning suffers stroke, in ICU at San F'do General hospital. PM Kamla expresses 'heartfelt concern'

Patrick Manning suffered a stroke Monday night and has been admitted to the San Fernando General Hospital. An update from his office late Tuesday said Manning remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). However he is stable and resting comnfortably.

A media release from the office of the former Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for San Fernando East said:

"Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Member of Parliament for San Fernando East, Honourable Patrick Manning last evening suffered a mild stroke.

"Mr. Manning is presently undergoing tests and being warded at the San Fernando General Hospital under tight security. Visitation is restricted to his immediate family. The public will be reliably informed as updates arise.

"Mr. Manning and his family would like to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support."

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar expressed concern over Manning's health issue.

In an official statement she said:

"I extend heartfelt concern for former Prime Minister Patrick Manning and join with the nation in prayer for his speedy and full recovery.

"I have advised the Minister of Heath to make available to our former Prime Minister every resource necessary that may be required to ensure Mr. Manning is well looked after.

"I know he is possessed of the strength of character and indomitable spirit that will help him through this health challenge and feel confident that he will resume his duty of national service."
