Central businessman murdered; 2011 homicide toll reaches 312

Police are investigating the murder of a businessman from Chaguanas.

Media reports say Joshua Henry became the second murder victim since the end of the state of emergency one week ago. His murder brings the homicide toll for the year to 312.

Police reports say bandits went to Henry's home Saturday in search of cash and valuables and beat the 72-year-old man to death. They bound and gagged his family members who freed themselves and reporting the crime to central police.

The Trinidad Guardian reported that investigators believe that the killers tortured Henry as they tried to find cash and valuables.

Relatives reported that a television, two computers, cellphones, cash and jewelry are missing from the house.

The other post-emergency murder victim was Lenny Slinger of Vega de Oropouche. Police said his body was found in a gravel pit in Sangre Grande, where he was employed as a watchman.
