A report in Sunday's Newsday newspaper said Health Minister Fuad Khan is planning to resign and return to his private practice.
The paper attributed the report to "a source close to Khan" but did not name the person. There was no confirmation from any other source.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar gave Khan an ultimatum in July to either serve as a minister or continue the private practice. She made it clear that he could not do both. The minister chose to continue in the public service.
The paper said many of Khan’s patients remain untreated due to difficulties with getting referrals to other doctors. It speculated that "this may have been the deciding factor in his pending decision". Khan is one of the country’s only reconstructive urologists.
He was appointed in June as the successor to Therese Baptiste-Cornelis.
